I am not intending to advertise for COMPUSA or Aver but they have this package at a good price.

    $49.99 -instant $10 -mail in $30= $9.99.

It is only a capture card s-vid, and composite (run audio directly into line-in of sound card, comes with audio splitter cable). But if you have satellite or digital cable box, then a tuner is not a lot of good anyway. Card is smaller than tuner cards.

It comes with NeoDVDstandard4, which can capture, simple edit, and author and burn. Haven't used it too much yet, but it does author the audio to PCM (the Plus package has better audio capabilities), but is a much better package than MyDVD (that came with Cendyne/Pioneer 4x burner). I think I still prefer to capture with WinDVR2 to MPEG2, since it has a scheduler, and flexible settings.

Neo could author a 30 min. show, captured in high quality (WinDVD reported somewhere around 8000Mbps) in around 20 minutes, and then another 30 (roughly) to burn.

  2. I have that package and the Aver capture card works very well IMO. I went ahead and bought NeoDVD Plus since the program is so fast and has zero bugs like so many other DVD authoring programs (Studio8 being the worst of the lot).

  3. Bob W,
I spent another 50$ to buy the neoDVD Plus too (mainly for its DolBy audio capability). This software is great. Now I can make upto 92mins DVD at highest quality level.
If my video is longer than 92 min, I still tell neoDVD to use highest quality to create DVD contents, then I feed that thru DVD2ONE or DVDShrink to make it fit and preserve the highest possible bit rate.
