  1. I am trying to convert an .avi file to a vcd. I tried using TMPGE and it gives me a "file not supported error" even after I downloaded DIVx4. Then I tried avi2vcd and it told me that it cannot deal with the compressed audio in the file. ANY help for a newbie would be appricated. THANKS

Basically tmpeg don't like div-x audio

when capturing the file do not use any compression for the audio (just use cd quality setting) but continue to use the div x video compression codec. This will give about 1.5 to 2 gig avi which you then load back into virtualdub and use audio compression to encode as full div x - but load the uncompressed audio version into tmpeg for conversion to mpeg - before conversion to vcd
if trying to convert a proper div-x you may be able to load it into virtualdub and then save as avi with no audio compression - I haven't tried.
