  1. Hi all

In your opinion, what is the best version/update of Instant Copy and why?
(quality of backups / stability / speed ...)

I have read that using the "movie only" hack can cause problems so I intend to first use DVD Decrypter / ifoEdit to rip it.

    Thanks in advance,
    ddlooping

  2. The latest update, v7.1.1 (update 3) seems to be pretty fast. I never had any of the versions crash on me. I mostly use the Decryptor to rip just the main movie files. Then I use DVD Toolbox (free) to remove everything but leave the main English audio stream and the English subtilte. Then if the remaining files are bigger than 5.5 GB, then I use IC7 to encode it. If the files are smaller, then I prefer to use DVD2one to transcode it.

  3. Thanks for your reply, falberni.

I'm actually using v7.0.3.140. Where can I find the upgrade to v7.1.1?

  4. I found out that their UK website is better than their US site. They have all the latest updates. Here's the link:

  6. Thank you both for your replies.

Up until now I was using the trial version but yesterday decided to buy Instant Copy. I then updated it to 7.0.3.140.
I did a test this afternoon with "Billy Elliot" R2.
First I used DVD Shrink to get the movie only, 5.4Gb.
    Then I used IC7, hard-drive to hard-drive. A compression of about 20%, size set at 4.31GB.
After about 2 hours I ended up with 1.90Gb worth of .pdi files.
Not surprisingly, the quality is pretty crap.
    Why???

    Here is IC7 log file:

  8. Hey DDlooping,

I'm at work and don't know what version I have, not the latest.

I'm working on T2 and am having a go at getting the final output size correct.

This time I'm trying using DVDshrink to cut off intro/credits and unnecessary audio.

I'm on my 5th time encoding because it keeps making the output files to BIG.

This AM I set it at 3.5G hoping that it will fit.

  9. Geez, I really like the pinnacle instant copy product, but their support isn't very good... The latest version availabe on the US website is dated 3/12/03 and contains version 7.0.1.114. My version came as 7.0.1.119 out of the box. Where are we supposed to go to find the most recent copy at any given time???

You're not alone. There is something wierd about the T2 Extreme disc. I'm just backing it up full, but the sizes have been extremely high. Wierd because IC generally undershoots by 10-15%.

  11. Thanks all for your replies.

I have uninstalled IC7, re-installed it but didn't run the update.
Backing up "Billy Elliot" now gives me 4.75 GB (5,102,932,321 bytes).
I used the default settings (DVD-R, "Automatic resize", 4.31GB), except max security for the ram.
If every time I want to backup a DVD using IC7 I have to try 2 or 3 times to get the right size (x 2hours) I might as well use DVD2DVD-R.
I'm starting to believe I've wasted my cash on this one.
Unless any of you has a solution.

  12. Thanks musher70 but I've already been there.
As far as I know, I didn't do anything wrong:
    - used DVD Shrink to rip movie only. I didn't have to strip anything as the original only contains one audio track and one subtitle track.
    - used IC, hard drive to hard drive, to compress the resulting files (5.4GB to 4.31GB >> about 20% compression).

The only difference between my settings and the ones recommended on MrBass site is that I left "Automatic Resize" (4.31GB) instead of using "Custom Resize" (which I would have left at 4.31GB anyway).

  16. The update file on Pinnacle's U.S. site is dated 3/12/2003. Since then there have been two more updates on their U.K. site. The latest update on the UK site is dated 5/19/2003. The update version is 7.1.1, which is obviously more recent than 7.0.1.114. The download file name from the UK site is "InstantCopy_Update3.exe".

So if you want the latest update go to this link:

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/docsupport1.asp?division_id=1&langue_id=2&product_id=1153&p...py&page_id=710

I have no crashes, it runs faster, and the file sizes are just right.

    that is the second update

as for me my wife's computer has instantcopy 7 with all 3 update

but this week i had too wipe my hard drive clean because pinn studio8 took too many file with it when i uninstalled it ( even though i click no 1000x to the delete this file question)

i put ic7 ver. 7.0.91 ( instead of instant cd/dvd 7.0 which is what i had on that computer) on it and i didn't update it and won't since it seem to be the fastest one, and i have no issues with it. if i do movie only burns (dvd shrink or smartrippr+ifoedit)
