  1. I have a few questions....

    1. To make a copy of my homemade indie film, all I need to do is to burn it to a DVD-R disc with my DVD-RW drive from my Adobe Premiere file and that's my "master" copy, then I can take it off my hard drive to free up all that space.
Then I need to buy a DVD-ROM drive as a second drive and the DVD-ROM drive and the DVD-RW drive is all I need to make copies from the master, is this right? True or False?

    2. How much Digital Video in terms of minutes can fit on a 4.7GB DVD-R disc?

    3. Is a 4.7GB DVD the same as DVD-5?

    4. How much Digital Video in terms of minutes can fit on DVD-10 disc?

  2. 1-False
2-2 hours is the rule cause more time=lower quality.
    3-ok
4-4 hours is the rule (2 each side) cause more time=lower quality.

You should have been able to search this stuff.

  3. Why is #1 false? I thought all I'd need would be a DVD-RW and a second DVD-ROM drive and just a stack of DVD-r discs to makes copies of the master...why is it false?

And also someone else said I could only fit la little less than 1 hour on a 4.7GB DVD-r disc? But you say 2 hours?

  4. 1- If I read you correct, you say you already have a dvd burner. You could just rip the disc to your hard drive then, go from the hard drive to dvd-R. No need to buy a dvd rom.

2- You could put 1 second of video on a disk if you like. 1 hour would produce great quality but, do you really want to waste a whole disk on 1 hour of footage when you can get 2 hours and produce great quality. 2.5 hours seems to be the breaking point, after that the quality drops to VHS and lower.

Nothing more will I teach you today. Clear your mind of questions.

I need to tuck Yoda in.

    g'night.

  5. 1. Well that's my point, it's a 60GB file and I don't want it on my hard drive. So should I go out and buy a DVD-ROM drive as a second drive and then essentially I've turn my PC into a homemade duplicator?

    2. So you are saying 2 hours of DV footage will fit on a 4.7GB DVD-R disc? How do I accomplish this? I've heard from several people that's not possible?

  6. I'll try to give you a more informative answer.

If you take a look around the site, you'll see that if it were as easy as just copying from a DVD-ROM, they would be no need for all of these different programs that we use to make DVD's. You cannot copy a DVD like you can a CD.

You're going to need to encode that 60GB of video down to a more managable size MPEG2 file to create a DVD. If you take a look to the left under HOW TO, that's a good place to start to learn how to accomplish what you want. You can put 2 hours of top quality video on a single DVD disc (actually 4-6 hours, but that's more advanced). After you create your DVD video, with whatever menus, extras, etc., you can then create an ISO file with all the information, leave that on your hard drive, and burn the discs from that.

You need to make use of the information on the site, including searching and reading the forums before asking questions. Most of the problems and questions encountered have already been answered in one form or another on this site in the forums, you just have to take the time to look.
