  1. I have been unable to use my new Canopus 100 for capture. There is no sound with multiple programs.

I went to the Canopus forum and there seems to be a problem with XP SP1. They posted a patch from MS but it did not help.

I am about to return the device until Windows and Canopus get this fixed. On the other hand, when it works, it works fantastic. I am concerned they may eliminate the MacroVision disable.

    Any thougts?

Been using the ADVC-100 on XP SP1 all along here as well (Since January). A few things to check:
The audiosync on switch..make sure its in the on position
Cables from your analog source. If they are hooked up wrong OR are bad cables, you will get intermittent sound (been down that road once..)

Also, like asked already which programs? For awhile the only thing that worked well and consistently for me was Scenalyzer .. I had a stray codec that was causing problems in just about everything else I attempted to use. Once I got that fixed it's worked in everything I've thrown at it from Premiere to Magix Video DeLuxe...

Which firewire card do you have btw? If it is Ti (Texas Instruments) and I've heard some reported problems with D-Link, it may also inconsistencies and capture 'burps'.

And check the avi (as suggested by skateni) if you haven't already done so, some programs don't preview audio just video.

  4. Guess it doesn't matter much with the other replies, but I'm also on XP/SP1 and the ADVC-100 has worked beautifully for me. Check your codecs. Could be an issue there.

  5. I have used DVIO, WinDV, Windows Movie Maker, and Ulead Studio 6. All capture video but no sound. I have tried inputing my sound both to the Audigy2 and the Canopus. Most programs set to capture from the Audigy. I tried just recording the sound with a sound recorder and it works fine.

Once again, the Canopus forum is filled with these problems. It seems to be some sort of problem with Windows and digital cameras/VCRs. I will call Canopus today.

Hmmm interesting. Are you using the firewire on the audigy 2 as your firewire connection for the Canopus?

I may be guessing wrong but there may be where in lies the problem. I can't claim to have used any of the capture programs you have mentioned. I prefer Scenalyzer.

With Windows XP SP 1, you want it to recognize the Canopus as a AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player.

  7. Just use windows xp pro!

Throw the SP1 in the garbage.

I dont understand how you can return the product when this is a know issue before you buy

It will work without problems on win xp without the SP1.

    It is your bad man!

Read some reviews before you buy next time is my advice.

Actually, I bought my Canopus knowing there were XP SP 1 issues. What ended up happening though is that in order to install the latest patch on some of the software I use, I had to upgrade to SP 1, in order to install the patch.

Poses a problem, no? When you buy any device you take the chance that it may just not work with your system. I got lucky, mine still functions properly under XP SP 1 (as do many others). You can't just toss ill to the wind that it was a 'bad choice' for buying the Canopus ADVC-100 when there are other products out there like.... Dazzle?

I haven't personally used the Dazzle but compared to some of the posts I've seen on here, I'll take my chances on ironing out any issues I have with the Canopus, instead of buying a Dazzle anyday. It was because of the posts in the forums on this particular site that led me to buy the ADVC-100.

Advcice to neo: Have you tried downloading the demo of Scenalyzer and giving that a shot? You could have some stray or odd codecs installed that aren't specifically pointed to anything. Use gspot to see what codecs you have an go from there if that is the case.

You said that most of the software wants to capture sound through the sound card and NOT the firewire. You mentioned how the programs you are using are wanting to capture sound through the sound card... there has got to be a way to force it to capture both audio and video through the firewire, I am just uncertain how to do this with the programs you are using.

    Goodluck!

  9. I have to agree with trillium.

    The canopus products rock!

Me myself has a Canopus ADVC 50.

I read carefully in many forums before buying.

I have tried alot, but nothing as good as canopus's products yet.

It just works as they say i would.

  10. I found the sound problem. I wish the Canopus came with a decent manual. I moved the audio from the soundcard to the Canopus card and that fixed that problem.

Now I need to convert. I want to use VirtualDub which works with DivX for conversion. At first it recognized AVI files but now I get an error message from VirtualDub: "Needs Video for Windows (VFW) codec to decompress video." It is needed for Windows dvsd AVI format.

    Any suggestions here?

    Read the VirtualDUB docs

VirtualDub needs a Video for Windows capture driver to capture. Most Firewire (DV) devices do not provide a VFW driver, and thus cannot be used by VirtualDub at all.
    Use WinDV or DVIO

You must understand that the CANOPUS ADVC-100 is a bridge between an analog device ( e.g. VCR, analog CAMCORDERS ) and your computer. To me the connections are pretty straight forward. You connect your analog devices to the ADVC-100 ( via the RCA jacks, red, white and yellow ) output jacks from your VCR to the ADVC-100 and you capture it via the FireWire to your comp. Not sure where you get the idea that your comps soundcard needs to be connected to the ADVC-100

    skateni:
Good point there! For awhile I ran my capture machine without a soundcard, just because I was to lazy to drag it off the desk, open up the case, and fiddle with drivers.. I waited until I had to drop another hard drive in. Granted it made for playback a little boring when editing, but I placed all my faith in the built in audio-lock on the ADVC-100! And it worked

Panasonic Codec. I think listed in the tools section. But if you can't find it there, Google is always available, 24/7 to enhance your internet browsing experience!

It works great doesn't it ?? :P makes me regret spending all that dough on cheesy capture cards ( looking back, what I have spend is enough to get me a couple of ADVC-100s ). I get great captures and no audio sync problems and no dropped frames ...
