Please Help. Download Movie and Tv files to DVD

I have been trying to figure this dvd making for months. I have an external dvd+r burner from HP. Now my problem is I have downloaded some movies and TV shows and I can't put them on a dvd+r disc. I use the dvd+r software called mydvd. I try to add a 695mb movie file and it comes up as 7.8gb so I can't write the dvd. Is there any reason why it does this? Is there another software I can use in order to burn these files to a dvd+r? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think you need to start learning a little bit about video encoding, the various standards and what tools are available for each job. Take a look at the left hand column of this web page and find the HOW TO heading. Click on Newbie and start reading. When you have read and inwardly digested all of that come back and click on Convert. Read the guides and try a few things out. Most of the guides use freeware, shareware or demo versions for you try.

Finally, when you come unstuck, come back here and ask how to solve a specific problem, giving as much detail as to what you have done so far as you can. Then someone might be able to help you.
