What's wrong with the plethora of guides found here at this site?
No matter what, there will never be one guide that will work for every source you try.

Some of my rants explain what the problems are. In a nusthell: Crappy source file. Garbage In = Garbage Out. Converting a DivX/XviD to VCD/SVCD/DVD isn't hard, in fact it's pretty straigtforward. However, if the source file is poor quality, then the final product will be poor. You can't transcode a video and expect it to be a lot better (noise filtering not withstanding on captures).
You have to make 110% sure it is error free. You have to deal with VBR and AC3 audio (see guides). A little 4cc header trick (or frameserve it) and Voila' your set. I convert AVI's to VCD(for my kids) while getting another beer during a commercial.....they go at an insane bitrate (200 fps). Going to SVCD and DVD just takes longer. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
