  1. I've used Ifoedit to make the files in my VIDEO_TS directory "playable" by WinDVD/PowerDVD. Then, I did a straight burn of the directory to a DVD+RW using Nero. I can can watch the finished DVD on my computer, but my home system doesn't recognize it at all. What am I missing? Is there a certain way I need to burn the DVD? Or does a home DVD player require an AUDIO_TS directory on the disc (mine does not have one).

    Thanks.

Browsing this forum, you will find a lot of people with this problem, with varying answers.

You will find that there are quite a list of variables that may make your DVD playable, or not, on different DVD players. A few tips:

First, search for your DVD Player that you want to play it on in the DVD PLayers compatibility & user comments at the left in this forum. Then read the specs on what it will require; then read the user comments for their experiences. With that informaiton, yhou may have a good start.

Some players don't read the DVDs you make; some require -r; some will read +r; many won't read -/+RW; some won't play based on the brand of DVD you burn to; some are successful if burned with UDF 1.02, others UDF1.5; some work fine if burned with NERO, others not.

    Cool, huh?

I have found that feedback provided to me that DVDs burned with Record Now MAX plays on many players that other programs are unsuccessful with. I have Record Now DX (came with my Sony burner), and have found it to be the ONLY software I have tried (only other tried was Nero, but tried 3 different suggested methods, including the one in the how to section of this forum) to be successful on my daughter's Panasonic; but all of them successful on my Apex.

Another thing I have found that will increase chances of success: even if your DVD and recorder support faster speeds, you will be more likely to succeed if you burn at 1.0 speed. Takes longer, but results in fewer coasters.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.
    Thanks

  3. I'll have to try a different burner software. Media compatibility and burn speed are not an issue in this case...all that's been checked and tested. It seems to boil down to one thing...the home DVD player is looking for something on the disc when it loads.

I even tested the data before burning. The software DVD player wouldn't play the files in the VIDEO_TS directory until after I ran them through Ifoedit. After Ifoedit did it's thing, I had a playable VIDEO_TS directory. After the VIDEO_TS directory was burned to the DVD+R (Sony burner, Sony media) it was still playable by the software DVD player. My home player (JVC), on the other hand, will not recognize the DVD.

How many times you can erase a DVD+R? Because I'm not stopping until I have a DVD I can put in my home player.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't erase a +r DVD. For re-writing/erasing, you need an +rw or -rw.

Not sure about what testing you've done re: speed, etc., but I might point out that I burned a DVD -r DVD at 2X, and it failed, and with same software, etc. at 1.X, and it worked.

Not sure what you're burning with. But, again, I am finding the Record Now program to be pretty reliable (not that I've tested on that many machines, but what I have done, it works on.)
    Thanks
