    Use virtualdub or nandub.
    www.dvdrhelp.com/avi2divx

Choose audio->direct stream copy(just copy the audio, use nandub if virtualdub complains about the audio when you open the video or else you will get audio sync problems).
Set the divx 4 bitrate to the same as the divx3.11 bitrate(check the bitrate with file->information).

  3. thanx but i cant seem to find were to change divx codec in nandub, it also says that the file is uncompressed and could be huge... what to do what to do

  4. nandub isn't for encodeing.use virtualdub.
if you get the error of VBR use virtualdubmod http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/
i dont know if the dvd player can handle VBR,in that case you have to convert the audio also to CBR.
    i wouldn't use divx4,use divx 5.02 or 5.04 beta.

  5. tahnks again. now on to my next problem. when converting a movie, they often become larger than 1gb, how do i get them down to 700mb without the quality of the movie going way down....?

  6. There is no real way how to make a file smaller without losing SOME kind of quality. Why don't you just split the file and watch it over discs - just like a laserdisc.

If you use same video bitrate as the source video it should be around the same size.

(didn't know that you only could select divx3 in nandub...but now I do...)

  8. yeah ok, but i have a movie which gets the error of VBR and I use virtualdubmod, but the sound still gets way out of sync. and if I use nandub or whatever to create a wav (I do it as told here: https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm) , the audio data ends up using up to one gb or so. tried to convert sound to mp3, but messed it up as the sound still was out of sync in the end...
