Don't take my word for it. See for yourselves:

See? The +R format disk can hold twice as much video (240min)compared to the -R format disk (120min). And both disks are from the same company.

Now, before anyone starts throwing stones at me,...

I'm joking. Just trying to make a point that even media companies aren't serious in the messages they produce for the public.

I've seen quite a few postings in DVDRHelp, about how much video can a DVD hold and even had a long discussion with a friend (with 20 years experience in computer hardware) that a DVD can hold as much video as you desire. Couldn't convince him !!

By the way, both disks were purchased as samples, along with my trusted TDK-Rs to burn on my "choosy" DRU500A. The +R disk failed to record at 4X. It wasn't destroyed. My second attempt, at 2.4X succeeded!!!
The second disk (-R) started recording (Nero 5.5.10.52) at 4X and continued recording at 4X for 29 minutes!!! Not even Nero realized the disk was joking on it.

And, of course, I am recording TDK disks at 4X all the time.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    You have a point, there...

It appears that DVDR manufacturers keep on the tradition of CDR labeling, where they put both Mb and minutes. But CDAudio is uncompressed. DVD video is (normally) VBR compressed, so I think, putting a time label makes no sense at all.

    And here come the stones...

BTW, buddy, trust me, both media are single sided, 4.7Gb. I know, I just recorded them...

Sounds like someone needs to take ones foot out of their mouth and follow their own advice. That dvd+r is single sided 4.7gb not double sided 9.4gb

I think they will keep falling. As soon as 8x media gets here and double layer media with double layer burner coming up in 2004, prices are going to fall even more.
