  1. Hi, i am not really a newbie, but i didnt know where to put this. I was wondering if it is possible to copy something like a video on demand event (video on demand is the thing you can get on the internet where you order like pay-per-views and stuff) to your hard drive in a .avi-.mpg-.asf, or any other watchable video format? thank you

  2. ASF recorder works for older formats but many are now a newer format that it cannot handle.

I will monitor this thread in hopes you find a solution. I would like it to.

  3. try WMrecorder (I found it at download.com). It works for windows media files but I doubt if it would help with quicktime or realmedia streams.

Last month I was surfing and found a site that showed an overlay grabbing utility that worked like this:

You define a window on the screen and select capture settings and the file. You hit Capture and the program starts capturing whatever is displayed on that part of the screen. One of the things this was shown to be useful was to select the full scren, a low frame rate and create a video demonstration of programs running. However, if you select 15fps and a small window you can get streaming output be captured.

The program required Windows WDM drivers installed, so I guess you need a recent Video grabber card with it's drivers.

The only bad thing is I have not bookmarked the page or downlowaded the program. However, if I remember correctly, the name is WindowGrabber.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    One word: Cache

Come on guys, this isn't rocket science. I pull all my online media clips out of cache (look at the file extension and date). Alternatively, use netscape and file/save as, or anyone of a 1/2 dozen programs to capture streaming media. A couple of them don't work on WMP 8/9 and XP, so look around with a google search.

Sounds like you're describing SnagIt. 'cause that's what it does.

    Snorkel,

You beat me to it, yeah it sounded like they're speaking of Snagit, another option is StreamBox VCR v3.1 It works very well for any format.
