    hate to say it
but its not toast, its your diskutility has a problem
i had the same thing happen when i went to 10.2.3

solution, reinstall diskutility - but crap the only way to do that is to reinstall jaguar!!!!!!!!!!

so, thats what I did. And im running 10.2.4, did the combo update from 10.2 to 10.2.4 and it works fine

apple said its one of the rare things that can happen when updating to 10.2.3

    hope that helps

one thing that might help is to repair your privlidges, if that doesnt work, run the disk repair utility on jaguar's cd, or dvd, which ever you have.

If that still doesnt fix it, reinstall and your good to go

speaking from experience here if your wondering.

I have to wonder what you guys are doing on your Jaguar machines! I've never had any trouble with personal computing period, in any major way shape or form, since "switching" and buying a Mac.

    -50 Error getting file position

os 10 is buggy indeed..Anthony instead of claiming you have NO PROBLEMS, try the task above before you post

  7. dcsos,

I have upgraded from 10.2 to 10.2.3, and I use Toast Titanium 5.2. I mount dvd disc images from Toast all the time with no problems. I use a firewire ezquest boa dvd-r (this is really a pioneer dvr-104).

Galactica's suggestions are right on. If you don't want to go to 10.2.4, try reinstalling 10.2.3 with the COMBO updater from Apple. Also run disk utility:repair permissions. This clears up a lot of problems for many users.

It is another error to assume I havent "tried the task." I always mean what I post ... I don't post frivolously often.

I have installed every Jaguar update, using Toast 5.1.2 and 5.2, and I've been using an external LaCie Firewire DVD-R drive.

People's problems generally occur when they go deleting files they shouldn't, which isn't as easy in OS X, but just log into OS 9 and blitz all kinds of stuff without the slightest blink of a warning (because OS 9 could give a shit about X).

Every time someone here has a major OS issue, it always comes down to needing to reinstall OS X. People should just do it ... You can reinstall X without overwriting your old installation of X, just in case having a fresh operating system somehow doesn't work for you.

  10. Well getting back to the subject,I upgraded toast to 5.2=no change so I reinstalled os 10.2.3 (tediously long on an iBook)repaired permissions etc... still wont mount disc images unless I delete the roxio folder (tdx). But everytime I shut down or reboot I have to go to the same process(find and delete the roxio folder(tdx). This is on an iBook 500 without internal dvd drive .

There was a patch floating around the net not to long ago that was meant to fool dvd player in thinking that your mac had a superdrive or internal player, any ideas on that.

Also tried VLC(which works just fine in os 10.1.5)but although it launches the video_ts it hangs in play mode and I cannot, use any of the controls or"force quit" it or use other applications when this is happening >Anyone aware of this?

    Thanks

The patch to fool the mac into thinking it had a superdrive only worked for os x 10.1.5
