I have a relative that is trying to preserve some family memories/history on DVDs.

He wants to make a chaptered DVD with voice over some scanned family photos. He wants to get audio of his older relatives describing things in old family photos and their memories of things at the time those old photos
    were taken.

I know there are lots of slide show DVD authoring programs, but the ones I've seen only let you set the time each photo is displayed for an equal amount of time. My cousin will need to time the photo change at very unequal timeframes to coincide with how long the older relative taked about what was in each photo. Do you know what I mean?

Do you know of one of those photo album DVD authoring programs that will let you custom set the diplay times unequally at whatever interval you want? And how would he transfer the audio into the program?

    Thanks

I use a Dazzle capturing system that Only lets me capture into Mpeg. So that is all I work with. I never do any DV/AVI video.....

I have used Ulead Video Studio 6 to do excatly what you want. Set each slide or transition effect to any length of time desired. It will allow you to put in mutiple audio files to be assigned to each slide.

They have a new verion 7 which just came out:

The advantage of DVD PictureShow 2 is that it will do the timing for you. You can set a default time for each slide, and then for ones you want to narrate just drag in the audio file and you can display for duration of the audio or continue after slide time. You can also set slide times individually.

I prefer a program like this over using an editor (VideoStudio6) because it also allows you to store the pictures in their original format and resolution on the disk. If someone wants to print out one of the slides, just put it in the computer and copy over the file.

This feature works both ways. If you want to create something that NO ONE can get at the images (maybe a commerical product that you are selling) then this feature is not good.

    joepic,

I really like VideoStudio6... and certainly you can do the timing and transistions... its just that PictureShow automates it. I would suggest that anyone try both and decide which process they prefer.

To me, I always want my original pictures to be included on the disk, because they are always family and not commercial. I think you're right, if you wanted to block access then certainly using an editor will leave only the resolution supported by the format.

    Each to his own!

  7. Joepic,

There is a program called Pictures to CD & DVD by Magix. I have it and so far, so good. You can do Trans, Random Trans, Add music, and Specify length of view for each picture or all one view length.

    try: www.magix.com

And I appreciate the info from you all too.

    Thanks aLOT!
I'll try them all....although having family members being able to make copies of individual photos in the years to come is definitely what I'd want(so VideoStudio sounds like not my 1st choice).

    Thanks everyone!
