Region 4 - Pal / NTSC

Are region 4 encoded DVD's Pal or NTSC?

As you can get dual encoded region2/4 DVD's I've always assumed they were Pal, but have just been told otherwise.

Can someone clear this up for me.

Region 4 is Austrailia, Mexico, South America, New Zealand, Central America, and The Carribean.

Some of these locations are PAl others NTSC.

Region 2 is Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt).

Japan is NTSC, all the others are PAL.

DVD Regions don't dictate the TV systems.

Most DVD's will have a globe with one or more number(s) in it clearly visible on the cover. If the number of the region where you bought your (unmodified) player is not shown then the DVD won't work with your player. In addition to this you should be aware that in some of the regions there are both PAL and NTSC releases. Most U.S. players only supports NTSC video while most European players supports both NTSC and PAL. In order to play a disc the player need to support both the region and the video format. This means that most players in the USA can't play play an European release even if the player has been modified to become a multiregional player.

NTSC format is used in these countries:

Bahamas, Bermuda, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guam, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Japan, Korea (South), Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Taiwan, Trinidad Tobago, USA,Venezuela,Virgin Islands.

PAL format is used in these countries:
