When making vcd's from dvd's the default bitrate has been 1152. Because I don't pretend to know hardly anything about this I have this question. When making the vcd's most often I end up with to vcd's. No problem. However the bin files that are created one is a little over 800 meg and the other might be anywhere from 100 meg to 300 meg. I know that when I burn these using toast that toast is doing sometype of compression to get the 800 meg bin file to fit on the 700 meg disk. Can I adjust the bitrate to custom so that toast won't do this compression to get it to fit. I figure if I have this much space left over on the second cd why not get a better picture and even out the video a little more between the 2 cd's. Thanks Wayne.

You are making your VCD at 1152k/sec and getting one 800 meg and say one 200 meg file. Total of 1000 MEGS or 1 GIG. To make it so you perhaps get 800 meg and 800 meg with max quality you need to play around with the bitrate setting.
The Bitrate tells you how many megs the file will be per seconds of video. Its a simple calculation. Convert your movie length into seconds. Set up the equatio to be Desired Size in kilobits = (bitrate)x(Seconds) and solve for bitrate. As long as this bitrate is below your players max, you should be able to watch the movie still.
Hope this helps

One other thing i forgot!
My version of 42 will not make anything beyond the 1st image file of the movie. Usually you get two .bin's and I only get one. Unless they have updated the software since my last download, your small file size could be due to image errors.
Look for the .mpeg file in the temp folder and see how large it is. if its more than 1.4 gigs then something is wrong. You can put a max of 794 megs per mpeg file into one image file.
So, hope this helps you -

Ok
I guess since my last download they have corrected the problem
Other option is to do this
Take your mpeg file and split it up into section of 794 megs. Then use vcdimager to make your vcd images. You will then be assured of the size since you know how large each mpeg file is
thanks -
