hello,
i don't know if i should post this piece of advice as a mini-guide, so i let it to the moderators to decide.
Question: what to to when toolame will *NOT* encode the full wav file to mp2???
Answer:
1.- try to use toolame under tmpgenc as it has been explained in the forum (make a search)
2.- use too lame under besweet. however, since both options rely on toolame, the same result will be obtained: at some point, toolame will abort encoding for some reason i cannot understand.
3.- use wav2mp which i haven't tried myself
or...
4.- as some forum member suggested: USE SCMP!!!! the webpage is at:
http://www.din.or.jp/~ch3/
the latest update dates back from 1999 but **IT WORKS**. it wil encode the FULL wav file from beginning to end. it is SO easy to use and thought the program is almost selft-explanatory, the html help is a very good one indeed.
i strongly advise you to use it in case of truble.
now, why i had to use it:
i donwloaded an avi file and the audio track was compressed in mp3 as virtualdub displayed in the info box. after many trial and error getting wrong mp2 files and since this .avi made virtualdub display a VBR sort-of-error-i-cannot-deal-with box i switched to nandub. no problem then. the original mp3 track was 44,100, 8-bit, stereo. I saved it as a wav a renamed to mp3 (file about 70 Mb). Once converted to .wav I used a sound editor in order to save it as 44,100, stereo, 16-bit. then i used tmpgenc to make the mp2. new project> audio file, i load the wav, settings, audio only and i fine tuned the settings to 128 kbps. i hit run and toolame begins its job. however, at some point... toolame aborts and i get an non-full mp2 conversion weighting 23 Mb and lasting some 25 minutes. Just the same happened with besweet. With SCPM i get a real full mp2 conversion weighting the MB i expected and lasting some 75 minutes, just as it should be.
if anyone can explain why toolame won't encode properly, please explain.
greetings,
Derebo
