  1. I was thinking of purchasing a Toshiba SD-R5002 purely for copying DVD films (and maybe a bit of storage for MP3's etc....not porn, oh no!). Is this a good drive to get for this purpose as it is only £150 and uses the cheaper DVD-R/RW media.
Also, what software is best/most popular for film ripping?

    Thanks all in advance!

  2. Pioneer or Sony... Don't get anything but those......

Now why would I buy any of those if I can get something else for cheap?

A lot of people who browse this forum either has a Pioneer or Sony... I'm pretty sure for every 10 pioneer users, you'll find 1 toshiba or any other brand... You want to get something that people know in case you run in problems...

  3. Quite frankly I'm appalled that you would solicit for help on this forum on how to help rip movies. It is rather common knowledge that everyone on here only obsessively 'backup' movies they already own . Other than that I kind of agree with what dhluke said, except you might want to wait to hear from a toshiba owner first.

  4. nowt wrong with the Tosh (Ive got a number of em) other than its a 2x drive which wuldnt win it any points with speed freaks

burns ritek g03s at 2x striaght out of the box with official tosh firmware

no worse in terms of failed burns than our previous pioneers A04s

I personally prefer to burn at 1x but have run em at 2x without issues while testing our duplicators

Stay a lot cooler for extended runs than the A04s did (7 per box no free bays in between)

Pioneer was first out the gates sony offers dual format support ( for what its worth) both are likely to get larger following than the tosh but its a good enough drive

Cough! Er...that's what I meant.........yeah! I ONLY want to back-up my OWN movies, yeah!.............
Looks like the Tosh is well woth the £150 asking price then. I like Toshiba, my 220EB DVD player is a wonderful bit of kit, and it's as cheap as chips!

Thanks for your help so far!
