  1. Special anniversary sale deal, I dont know who makes
the Compusa-brand DVD-R's, if anyone buys them
starting 3/16-3/20, please let me know if they are a good brand.
(You can pop in the dvd-r into your dvd-rom and run a program
to tell who really manufactures the dvd-r, correct?)

  2. I just read the flyer,

If you look at the html, it says the manufacturer is fmi. I looked in the dvd media section and there is no listing.

I may pick some up no rebate can't go wrong . Even though I haven't bought a dvd recorder yet

  3. I wonder if that is just one per customer or could I go in and buy like five sets of ten DVD?

  4. Bob w,

It doesn't say anything about one package per customer.

BTW do you know Bill W. :P

  6. That's good that you don't know Bill W.

Although I have never met or been associated with Bill W. , sometimes on weekends during the summer months I think I should go to see him.

1x for sure but not a bad price for retail. You can buy online here.

I picked up a 10 pack this morning. ADVDInfo lists the following:

    CompUSA
    00 6A 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .J...@....P.....
    76 78 80 00 03 4C 44 30 31 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 VX...LD01.......

Exact same header as the Accu's I picked up a month ago from cdrdvdrmedia.com.

But will they burn at 2X? (In a Pioneer A04 with stock firmware, not the "hacked" one that burns everything at 2X...)

Given that these seem to be the exact same discs as the Accu's, I will only burn them at 1x. I had major problems with the Accu discs on my Sony 500a at 2x. Lots of errors and coasters. Even when they did seem to work at 2x, the players would have issues reading and tracking.

  14. I've used these discs before with my Sony 500a. Burned them at 2x with no problem and the discs play fine on my Pioneer 503c.

I bought some HP DVD+R discs that were 1x and they record just fine at 2x on my Sony 500A. This media thing is really a mess.

  17. I'm about to buy a bunch of these tomorrow morning seeing how the compusa's and the retail stores and malls are closed here on sunday... Anybody familiar with this brand? I don't feel like wasting money on unreliable media anymore... Or has anybody tested it at 1x/2x ? My system specs = Abit VP6 Dual PIII 1000mhz, 1gig of ram, WD 120gig hd, ATI Radeon 9700 pro, Pioneer 16X DVD-ROM, Yamaha CRW-F1, External Sony DVD Writer (DRX500ULX) connected on firewire. Appreciate any info on this media and problems anybody's getting with it.

I bought 10 today to give them a shot. If I like them I'll go again tomorrow and pick up maybe 20 or 30 more. They'll be the first DVD-R's I'll burn in my new 105. If I can figure out how to burn them that is. Nero Express doesn't seem to want to let me burn data to a DVD-R disk.

Why are you so shocked? Why would you EXPECT it to not be a quality DVD-R? I'm sure movies will be fine, they are Accu's and Accu's are known to be solid. Nothing so fancy about these discs, or the deal. They can be bought for under $1 at http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/higqual47dvm6.html

I couldn't find any info on FMI before I hurried off to the mall and to spend a day out with my girlfriend.
I had hoped they were 2X rated.

Now that I know they are Accu, I am probably returning mine (bought 50 today):
    1) They are only 1X rated (even if they burn at 2X on one of my two DVD burners)
    2) They can be found cheaper online (without jewel cases which I don't need anyway)

I had some Accu's and they only burnt at 1x speed. They did'nt even play in my 2 playstations (v1 and v7) nor my sony DVD desktop player (It did play in my Xbox )

Please post the DVDinfo and serial of the disc.
