I had purchased a spindle of 100 2 months ago for $79 from Rima and am looking to purchase another 100, but the costs for Ritek have skyrocketed - the same media now sells for $110 from Rima - an increase of almost 40%! Supermediastore used to sell them for around $85, now they're $129!

What's going on? Did I miss something?

  3. It's called supply and demand. With dvd-r burner's prices falling and also quicker "backup" methods (such as InstantCopy) the demand for Dvd-r media Has grew quite a bit. This means that companies such as ritek can charge more . The media is still alot cheaper than Pioneer or Verbatim.
There was a period about month ago when Ritek could not produce enough to meet demands. And I think that's were most of the rise comes from. When another company that produces cheap quality Media (like ritek) comes along the price will drop agian. Until then I 'll pay the extra 25 cents a disc to get something I know will work instead of some crap like Princo. The only way Princo stays in business is from Newbies who just got thier burner and is tring to get the Cheapest media possible. But soon they learn you get what you pay for.

  4. I do not think Princo is "crap" any more. I spoke to a few companies about Princo, and while the early stuff they made was crap, the newest stuff is not. I burn Princo and Ritek here, and the Princo's work better for me.

You might be right I have been using Princo 2X disc's and they work very good, They do rate the 2X media at "grade A" quality.

  6. Who rates Princo's 2x media at A quality? Princo themselves? Anyway, regardless of whether they are really better or not, I think I'll wait it out and see. I don't need another movie dissappearing on me.

    Hey Guys,

If you're seriously thinking about using princo, PLEASE look in the media section for the threads concerning their degradation.

They seriously are NOT GOOD at all. I have read and heard many accounts of them just stopping working, as well as within the past week my bro in law has had 5 just stop working. None of them were more than 1 month old, and had been handled and stored very carefully.

I don't even know if at this point I'd use them as a coaster for fear my beer may disappear due to them !!!!!!!!!

  8. You guys might be right I dont want to risk losing my backups using Princo's, Ill just use them to make backup data disc's and backup of backups. Ill stick with the old reliable Ritek's.

  9. I have been using Optodisc DVD-R with great success. They can be bought for $90-95/100.
