I've tried both IUVCR, VirtualDub and Virtual VCR doesn't work fine with video/audio sync...
No framelosses, still... Not 100% correct sync. I've checked my harddrive doing DMA if available and actual transfersetting "Ultra DMA". Don't know if my old motherboard supports it though (think it should).
I know I have an old computer P2, 400MHz, 384MB ram. But my graphic card is powerful (MSI G4 TI-4400 - 128MB).. I can't even do a VCD (352x288) without syncproblem although my CPU usage is way below max (in the middle) when trying to capture for VCD format (352x288).
Why is there a video/audio syncproblem?

one reason may be some kind of incompatibility between audio card and video card, maybe due to audio card clock stability.
you can try, using virtualdub, to put a flag in the checkbox Capture -> Settings -> Lock video stream to audio; this may introduce some loss of frames but should keep audio and video in sync.
I guess there are other reasons and other solutions (i.e. be sure video card doesn't share irq with audio cards and others), here you are in the right place, you'll sure get some more helpful hints.
good luck. -
Sound-, Video- and gameunits: IRQ 10 (IN/OUT: 1070-1077 - Memory interval: E8100000-E811FFFF)
Modem: IRQ 9 (I'm using a NIC) (Memory interval: E8121000-E812103F, E8130000-E813FFFF and E8128000-E812FFFF)
Multifunctioncard (Vortex Multifunction PCI Parent): IRQ 10 (IN/OUT: 1078-107F and 1070-1077 - Memory interval: E8100000-E811FFFF)
NIC: IRQ 9 (IN/OUT: 1000-103F - Memory interval: E8120000-E8120FFF and E8000000-E80FFFFF)
USB: IRQ 9 (IN/OUT: 1040-105F)
Is this my problem?

Baltazar,
From the data you posted, as you can see you have two pieces of equipment trying to use the same interrupt. Your Sound/Video card a Vortex card. I am not knowledgeable about the Multifunctioncard (Vortex Multifunction PCI Parent) and what it does. Additionally, what other processes you have running, while doing captures. But if there is ANYTHING going on in the background that requires use of the Vortex Multifunction PCI, it is going to steal CPU cycles from the capture process. All CPUs are fairly ingorant stupid critters. They only do what they are told to do. One thing at a time. However, they do that work reasonably quick. Thus, depending upon what other processes are running in the background that needs CPU time, the number of CPU cycles stolen could be insignificant. But if it happens often enough (i.e., more requests) then the audio/video problem will become progressively worse over time. However, if there is a sudden jump in video/audio problem, then the Vortex card is stealing more than just a few CPU cycles and is having to service a higher priorty job.
Thus, the solution that has been stated in these forums many times is to "Turn off all unnecessary background running processes during capture."
There have been other threads in the forums describing how this is done with variousl operating systems. -
Yes and No. Depending on your OS and motherboard, the IRQ's being the same for video, sound, NIC, and multifunction card could very well cause you all sorts of problems. PLEASE supply us with your operating system(XP,WIN 95,98,98ME, NT,W2K) and your computer details so we can try to figure out your problem.

Are you seeing sync issues on your tv, or are you simply viewing the captured file on your computer?
If it's the latter, what are you using to play the file back?

The OS is W2k Pro and I don't exactly know what motherboard it is, its a Dell Dimension XPS R400 computer.
Also I have switched off all unnecessary background running processes during capture.
Also did "Sync using stream offset" in iuVCR and the sync was perfect for about one minute when capturing in VCD (352x288) format, after that it became unsynced again. -
I am viewing the captured file on my computer using Windows Media Player 9. I tried the captured file in PowerDVD and it has the same playback as the WMP. My DivX Player 2.0 fails to open the captured file.
-
Also tried VirtualDub capturing VCD (352*288) format and Lock video stream to audio. Works fine, even after one minute everything is syncing perfectly, except... for a large amount of frames dropped (250 in two minutes capturing).
-
I solved my problem myself, no more dropped frames on my old computer
Thanks everyone for taking your time to help me! -
For future reference I would never use WMP for veiwing captures, almost had out of sunc issues until I used something else.
I use Vdub for catures and had to uncheck the 'lock audio to video' box to ensure perfect sunc video/audio.
How did you solve your dropped frames capture?
I take it by checking the lock audio to video' this solved your sound issues, right?

How did you solve your dropped frames capture?
When I restarted VirtualDub I missed that my previous settings where changed back to the default values. It was set to 15fps that's why I had 250 frames dropped in two minutes (only had 23 frames dropped now in capturing one hour)...

Yes, it went well
Right now I'm doing the TMPGEnc conversion from my captured AVI (6GB) to SVCD.. Hope it'll work fine. I captured in 480x576 (SVCD like the guide said: https://www.videohelp.com/mjpeg.htm). And now TMPGEnc is doing "Super Video-CD PAL (MPEG-2 480x576 25fps CBR 1699kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)". Hope, when I finally burn the file as a SVCD in Nero (it'll take seven hours for my slow computer to encode the 6GB AVI file) that it will not be 480x576 on my TV :/ Else I guess I have to do the encoding again someway. Hopefully NOT do the capturing again :/
-
OH NO! I encaptured in 1:1 VGA mode just as the guide https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencsvcd.htm said... Nine hours for nothing!
Have to do it again, it should be 4:3 display! -
You know that in TMPGEnc you can use the Source Range to select only a small part of the file to encode, that's if you use the wizard. Do some small tests to make sure your settings are OK before starting the full encode.

Yes I realized that this morning
- If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Some strange "noise" accours though on my SVCD after being encoded, often when there at times are more movements on the screen. Guess it can't be better then this (perhaps).
