  1. I have a question that I am not too sure about.

I like to convert to CVD and burn to CD

My player only handles up to 2500bit rate.

If I burn to DVD-R instead of CDcan I raise the bit rate over 2500 or does is still see it as a cvd which can only have 2500

Probably a dumb question but was not sure.

  2. i think (!) the 2500kbps limit comes from the drive which is able to read CDs at 2x speed (but no faster).
if this is true you should be able to go beyond 2500 without problems, since the DVD player is able to read DVDs way faster (in terms of bitrate)...
however i don't know for sure, so don't blame if it doesn't work... 8)

  3. i really see no reason to increase the bitrate, you said its a scvd so it thats the case it should like a 2500 bitrate to begin with and you won't be able to improve the video anyways if you increase the bitrate. the video can never be better than the source. so i would just convert it to cvd and put it onto a cd...

  4. well, of course it only makes sense if you do new encodes directly from DVD.
if you re-encode you will always lose quality.

Answer to the original question: Yes, if you burn onto DVD-R you're not bitrate limited. My Philips DVD is also limited to 2500 kbps or so bitrate with SVCD, CVD. However, i recently backd up an old 8mm tape (352x576, avg ~4000, max 9000 kbps) and it plays perfectly (as it should, it's a standard DVD with 1/2 D resolution)

At first I thought the highest possible bitrate that a CVD could play at was 2520kbps. I was wrong, I'm going to encode my CVD's at much higher bitrates such as 3000kbps and such. Thanks RoopeT.
