  1. When I have ripped dvd's in the past, I have used Smart Ripper, to rip the dvdto my hard drive, and then dvd2avi to create the wav and d2v files to put into TmpegEnc. Then I Confirm that the setting that was in DVD2Avi to do with the 16:9 or 4:3 thing is the same in TmpegEnc, and then make sure I have a file name that ends in mpg. Then when it comes to putting it onto VCD, when it is played in the DVD player, the sound is all screechy and very out of sync and the picture is very jittery. With my old PC about 1 and a half years ago, the quality was certainly decent, but this most of the time is nearly unwatchable.

So can somebody please tell me what programs are the best ones for the different procedures, because I want to get it so that I don't have to spend all day for the one movie. As it is now, I can rip a few dvd's today, and then do the dvd2avi steps tomorrow and then some of the TMPGEnc steps the next day as that is very very very slow.

SO PLEASE CAN SOMEONE ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER AS IT IS DRIVING ME MAD WASTING MANY CD's RIPPING CRAP QUALITY VCD'S.

  2. Hey. I use DVDx to rip DVD's. The quality turns out to be great and the program itself is very easy to use. You don't need to use any other programs than this one to rip the DVD's. (Like smartripper and so on.) You just load the DVD that needs ripping, set up the program and then you let the program do the rest. DVDx comes with a built-in converter, so it both rips and converts to (S)VCD. Very easy. And you don't need the "X" numbers of GB free space like you do when using SmartRipper.

DVDx is freeware and can be found under "How To" --> DVD RIP.

  3. With the program DVDx, can you sort of set it up so as you know which step it is doing at what time, so as after it has done the ripping side of the dvd, the dvd can be taken out of the drive?

  4. sounds like you are doing everything right. So, it could be a couple of things: 1. are you sure it's not your dvd player??? have you tried other peoples vcds?? have you tried it in another dvd player 2. are you burning at a slow speed like 4x..the higher the speed the more'south' things will go. 3. to double check your setup go to http://entiendo.gotnet.net/ and check out the setup for smartripper to dvd2avi to tmpgenc

  5. The dvd player is fine. I've tried it in both dvd players that we have in the household. I have tried other vcd's like the ones I bought from Malaysia and they work fine well so much as they don't do the same annoying things that the ones I have created do. The burning spped I use, is always 4X for nearlly everything, and sometimes 2X depending on what it is, but vcd's I would usually do 4X. I'll go and have a look at the site that was suggested, and thanks for the suggestions.

  6. DVDx simply converts the DVD to (S)VCD. You choose which formats you want it to convert to. You don't need the many gb's of free space on the drive to rip the DVD's. When it says "Done" you can eject the DVD and then you are finished. Very easy.
