Hi,
(I ask the following having both trolled through posts from Searches on this topic.)
I have a lot of codecs from using other edit progs. on my system. However, when I come to Pinnacle Studio 7 'Make movie' - for an AVI that I'll use TMPEGenc to encode to SVCD - there are only a few that are allowed by the prog. (By ticking the option box for more, a warning pops up saying only those shown initially are confirmed as working with S7.)
My question is of these, which is best for the outgoing AVI: listed are
Studio's own DC10+ MJPEG 16 codec
Cinepak codec by Radius
DV video encoder
Indeo video 5.04
Intel Indeo R3.2
Intel Indeo Raw R1.2
I have a 120gd HDD so AVI size is not important, but picture quality from the captured mono Sharp Viewcam source is. Consequently, res is 720 x 576 (PAL, 25fps).
(The SVCD is played on a standalone DVD player from a CDR/CDRW. I don't have a DVDWriter.)
I'd be grateful for any suggestions from other's experience of the best codec on the list to use, bearing in mind that the above list are the ones Studio says will work properly with the set up.
Many thanks.

Legoman,
Cheers again for your post. Yes, when I tick the box I get all the codecs from my system listed. The problem is that Studio says it only works well with those in the shortlist, hence the problem.
Thanks. -
Use same codec as you used to capture with PS7. In that case only edited scenes will be re-encoded. No re-encoding = avoiding loss in quality.
At least that is true for me if I capture from DV camcorder in DV AVI.Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
Thanks Don Pedro,
Looks like I'll have to use MJPEG as that's what the DC10+ board uses. Certainly I don't want to risk any loss of quality. A shame you can't choose another codec to cap with on this board.
I'm grateful for your post.
