  1. I am not currently at my computer now that I do my backups on so I cannot tell you what file extension they are in exactly but I would like to know if anyone has been using Nero or RecordNow Max and how they have been using that software to burn those files to get a playable DVD for a set top player.

  2. well for nero just follow the wizard for dvd video. as for recond now just burn in data mode. just make sure you create a video and audio files and that they are in caps.

InstantCopy *CAN* burn the disc itself, but he's obviously already saved the files to his hard drive.

Use PDITOOL to extract all the files from the PDI images on your hard drive. You can download it from here:

Then just burn the files in the normal way.

With InstantCopy you're much better off saving the project to your hard drive first rather than letting it burn straight to disc because it is so awful at predicting the final size. For instance, if the project only ends up at 4GB on your hard drive you can always redo it and up the output size a bit to get it closer to 4.37GB. Time consuming maybe, but at least you're getting the maximum quality possibly on your discs.

InstantCopy will burn the PDI files from your HD to your DVD disk directly, there is no need to extract the files unless you want to add or change something.

What about simply checking it? I've had a few films that needed IFOEdit to correct the VTS sectors which wouldn't have been apparant if I'd just burnt with IC7. Also, I always extract in File Mode so that I can do other things with the VOBs, and this method doesn't give you an AUDIO_TS folder on the IC7 authored disc.

  7. This method does give you the AUDIO_TS folder. The latest update adds the AUDIO_TS folder for compatibility. On the previous versions, the AUDIO_TS folder was there also, if it was on the original DVD.

I've not used IC7 to burn since the first time I used it because of it's extremely erratic (read crap) file size prediction, but I thought that the AUDIO_TS was only added if you ripped to an ISO. If this improvement has been implemented though it still isn't the most important reason to extract the title sets which to me is VTS errors that have occurred.

At the end of the day everyone should use the software as they see fit, but for me there is a very good reason not to burn either straight to disc or straight from the PDI files with IC7. For an extra 10 minutes wait it seems daft to take the chance.

  9. IvIark,

I want to thank you for the link to the PDITools after installing them and changing the *.pdi to *.iso and then burned the *.iso with RecordNow Max it played great in my set top player.

After reading what some others have stated I will install the update to Instant Copy so the final disk will have a AUDIO_TS folder and be more compatible with older players.

Again thanks for the link rather then just saying you need to get this and install it. (PDITools).
