Trouble with avi. to vcd using TMPGenc

I've been burning for awhile now with TMPGenc and have never had any problems untill now.

I have a couple avi's I just got that are giving me problems. When I convert them with TMPGenc, I get sound but no video. Also, as a side note(if it helps understand my problem), I tried opening them in Virtualdub and it gives me an error saying that it can't locate the correct codec to decompress it. Of course I don't know why. I've always converted avi's without any problems up untill now.

Are you encoding to MPEG2? If so, thats probably why. Install some codecs for it. Theres some in the tools section of this site.

No, I'm pretty sure it's mpeg1. I'm making VCD's by burning onto CD-R's.

I've already checked the tools section and have downloaded almost everything it said I needed for avi.

Could the avi. be corrupt(I didn't think it could be, because I get sound, just no video)?

Do I still need a certain codec? I've been testing my other avi's to see if it was a new problem, but all my other avi's still work fine. It's just this one. I can't seem to figure out why. It seems like a normal avi, just like the other ones.

Use GSpot to see what codecs your stubborn AVI wants. If it reports that you don't hav'em, find them and install, and you should be fine.
If GSpot tells you that you have all necessary codecs, try opening the AVI in VirtualDub. If you get both audio and video, then frame serve to TMPGEnc. VDub seems to be able to open far more AVIs than TMPGEnc.
