  1. Hi,
I've got an interesting situation which has puzzled me for a while and would like if possible for someone to point me in the direction of an answer.

I have burnt a number of DVD+R discs for my Sony DVP-NS705 (None Multi-Region).. I use two methods:

    1) Rip an original DVD using i.e. Smartripper, use IfoEdit to change VOB info for movie only then burn using Nero in DVD-ROM (UDF)

    2) Encode a XVid to MPEG using TMPGEnc, use IfoEdit to create VOB's then Nero in DVD-ROM (UDF) to burn.

The fist method every disc works, the second not one will play. I know they both work because they play on my friends Wharfdale M5 (Multi-Region).

Can someone please tell my why this is happening?

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy.

  2. I had a problem like this, turned out that my Sanyo dvd player doesnt like dvds that are not fully burnt.

If I author a dvd thats say 1.6gb and burn it, it wont work on my player but will work on everyone elses. If i then do a dvd-dvd copy using nero, nero burns it all the way to the end and it then works.

I have started burning extra 'dummy' vob files with my compilation to pad it out, and it seems as long as I go over 4gb it works ok.

Dont know if this is the problem with your player, but my Sanyo can't be the only one that has this problem.

I dont' know if this may help, but i've noticed when burning from encoded vobs, you'll need to "get vts vectors" before authoring with ifo edit. It has to do with having the first title play matching the sector start site of the first chapter. When i didn't do this, my standalone player would recognize the disc as DVD but would be unable to do anything. When i examined with ifoedit, i saw that the start sector was 0 the first chapter and the first title. When I put the disc in my pc, it worked fine as a normal DVD, so i'm guessing that on some standalones, it's not really a problem.

    hope this helps
