    i have a nifty black Pioneer DVR-1O4.
i've read from several sites that the DVR-1O4 should use the 1.31 firmware for best compatibilty when burning at 2X with certain newer DVD-Rs. the problem is when i try to update the firmware, i get an error:

i've read somewhere that this error is caused by the fact that it is an OEM product (perhaps made for a compaq or sony system).
does anyone know a way around this?
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

Haven't used this personally...But sounds like it might help. Especially the last 2 sentence...

"7) Once completed drive is ready to accept official Pioneer Firmware. "

"NB This utility is for drives which have been manufactured by Pioneer and are sold under different brand names such as Compaq, Teac, and Benq."
