  1. I am trying to put 2 movies on one dvd. Every time I load mpeg-2 into ulead movie factory, it has to re-encode it and makes it way too big!

I use dvd2avi and get d2v file and wave file. use tmpgenc to encode:
    MPEG-2, 29.9FPS, 720X480 res, 4800khz at 224kbs for sound.

    Any ideas out there???

    Thanks,

    DD

New to this myself but i dont think 29.976 is a MF2 complient framerate, has to be PAL or 23.976

  3. Actually it should be 29.97 (or 23.973 telecided to 29.97). I don't use Ulead so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is (I normally author in Maestro). Are you sure it's re-encoding and not just scanning/parsing the files?

The only thing that comes right to mind is that since you authored in TMPGenc you audio is MP2 which is not DVD standard (although pretty much every player will play it), so Ulead might be re-encoding the audio (which I assume is 48khz?).

For DVD rips I would just use the original ac3 and only encode the video (this also speeds up your encoing time in TMPGenc). You might want to de-mux your MPEG2 file and give that a try to see if that helps.

  4. thanks for the iders, I have been through all that already. I would like to know how to author in maestro. Have to give that a shot.

Can you do menus with maestro?

  5. You CAN do menu's with Maestro, but it is not as Newbie friendly as with most of the consumer level apps. Far more powerful though. Basically in most consumer level apps you can pick a background and drag in chapters to make menu buttons.

In Maestro you have to prepare all your assets externally in a graphics program, and then import them into the app for authoring. So you will create a graphics file at size 720x480 for the background of your menu, then you create a sub-picture overlay file for your menu button selections, then you create the buttons in Maestro etc. There are some good guides, and it is really pretty easy, ONCE you get through the initial learning curve.

The big plus is the power you have, you can make any type of menu you can dream up, it is a lot of fun once you get into it.
