  1. I have heared many horror stories about getting knock-offs. And i have never seen a actual scan of what a genuine Ritek DVD-R looks like. It's always the same picture of that same blue DVD-R. And it doesnt say Ritek on the disc or packaging anywhere.

And ESBuy is selling, what to me looks like a Ritek 4X DVD-R, as their own brand.

Anyone care to bring some light on the subject to me.
Ok Ok Ok, I know I'm not as smart as all of you. But look how much smarter I make you look!

Pig in a poke but you can try ADVDinfo when you have some discs to find out who manufactured the discs. Gotta watch that too now as some outfits have stolen IDs for TDKs in the last few months so they can say their product is TDK, when it's not. Unscrupulous? Yes, especially when mucho $$ is involved...

  3. But then you'd actually have to buy the discs to find out. Thats pretty crappy.

Buy it YES, be able to return it YES!

Unfortunately, everything in this world isn't always simple. This is one of those cases. Bottom line to me and should be for anyone else, is IF by chance you buy a disk thinking it's one manufacturer, whether it be Taiyo Yuden, or TDK, or RITEK, and you get something else, then the place you got the disk from is shady and if you have any sense, you'll return the phony disks, GET YOUR MONEY BACK, and never do business with that place again.

Just think if there wasn't a proggy like ADVDINFO and you got those "sleepy hollow" no name disks, then you wouldn't know your ass from your elbow, or in this case, Ritek from SKYTECH. I was fortunate to order ACCU's and got the SONY manufactured ACCU's, that was MUCH better then I hoped for and those disks are incredible. And when I purchased them, I let the company know I was no fool and I specifically asked for the disks with the manufacturer ID of SONY. I let them know I don't play.

I can't see how Ritek can be any better then these, when they are perfect as it is. Not to mention the fact that these disks are at LEAST 30 cents a piece cheaper. Everyone keep buyin up those Ritek's so I have all the ACCU's I could want. 8)

  5. You can't chose media vendors blindly on price. What are you really saving if they send you the wrong media or fake branded media?
What are you saving if its not packaged well or they are uncooperative with RMA's.

The only way you are assured of buying what you payed and ordered is dealing with a reputable vendor.

go to resellerrating.com and do your homework.

Crappy vendor's worst nightmare is when we start talking to each other how we have been wronged by them. If they had their way all this info would still be buried inside peoples heads.

A reputable vendor does not and will not sell you fake ritek.

    @Defense

is it common for online stores to allow a customer to request a type of disc by manufacturer?

my experience with most of these places is they don't know their ass from their elbow, and if I were to say something like "I want the ACCUs but not that bullshit, I want the ones made by Sony" that I could actually hear the ten car pileup in the salespersons brain.

if I could pull it off though I would love to because I get the Ritek 1X discs for .86 and I would love a better disc. I was alway afraid of ACCUs because the first spindle of DVDs I ever bought was a 25 pack of ACCUs and they won't work for video.

where do you buy your Sony ACCUs?

That 10 car pile-up is a trip! lol....Anyway, you are ABSOLUTELY right about the salesperson not having a clue, so I knew that ahead of time and spoke to two guys from the Technical Support Department! They knew their shit as I expected and gave me some interesting information which made me want those SONY ACCU's even more.

Don't purchase them from MERITLINE, even though they are the same company, they use different manufacturers, CHEAPLY made, and CHARGE MORE MONEY then cdrdvdrmedia.com Why do they do this? I have no clue on that one. But I don't care because I don't get them from meritline. I get them from www.cdrdvdrmedia.com. Get a 25 pack there and I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

As I mentioned in a previous post, not only are the new batch i'm gonna get today SONY, at least it strongly appears they will be...but the new batch won't be SILVER on top, it will be WHITE. Those are more expensive disks and are ink jet printable, although I won't use that option for labels, because I don't care about the disk looks..It will be better because of the fact that it will be smoother to write with my DVD Marker. Anyway, to answer your question directly, I took a shot when I did this but what I did was ask the technical support guy to let me send an email with my order with his name, saying he verified the different manufacturer's and understands I only want Sony.

He said they usually don't do that, but in this case he would get me Sony because he would forward this to the warehouse where the orders go out. I will find out today if this is true, but I strongly feel like I pulled this one off! I'll keep you posted.

How do you know they will be white because the picture still shows silver? Is this because you spoke with a guy and he did a special request? Did you happen to ask why their prices went up on most of their media this last week? I order from here also and I now prefer the DVDpro over the Accu's because the DVDpros are white and feel stronger. The Accu's feel rather flimsy. Both have high compatibility and success with my tests.

  11. Guys,

I have ordered some Accus, and am pretty happy with them. But how do I find out if they are made by Sony????

    Thanks for your help ...

    Schildi.

  12. @schildi, don't post the same question in different places. You've already posted a topic about that and i've already answered it.

@Drewson, take a look at my post on the "media" forum about those WHITE TOP ACCU'S!

Man are these the shit! I will post it here though because I told you I handle business!

SONY IN BOTH SPINDLES! One thing I think is very interesting is that there was a barcode on one of the silver/purple 50 pack's I purchased a month ago or so. The other 50 pack spindle didn't have a barcode and I thought that might be a way these sites know which is SONY and which isn't. Well guess what, I WAS RIGHT BECAUSE on BOTH of these 50 pack spindles I just received, there is a BAR CODE ON BOTH of them, and the BAR CODE NUMBER IS THE EXACT SAME as the first SONY SILVER/PURPLE order! Not to mention I just ran BOTH spindles through ADVDINFO AND THEY SAY "SONY."

Damn I'm good! As I said, I don't play! Oh, and these ACCU'S LOOK SO DAMN SWEET! White top with a silver circle, damn these look good and I don't even care about the DVD looks! lol.....I expect nothing but exceptional burn and play from these bad boys! To say i'm happy as a pig in shit would be an understatement!

  14. Drewson, another poster said these Accu's they received from "MERITLINE" have all sorts of problems. Meritline is known to play switcharoo, and even though the same owners have cdrdvdrmedia.com...they seem to be much more legit over at cdrdvdrmedia.com. AT least with me they have been. I think that guy that got these disks at meritline probably got some crap manufacturer...they've done it before and will probably do it again. I'll report my results with my first few movies as I have some waiting to be burned on my hard drive right now.

I just realized the same poster was asking me a question in this very thread about how I knew I would have the white top ACCU's and not the silver. Now they are saying they have the SAME EXACT DISKS a couple of hours later..lol...get real...I'll test these bad boys out and let you know
