thing ive read all the various sorts of posts regarding how to get xvid encoded avis to re-encode properly, that is the audio sync is way off.
ive read and read and so far from what i gathered its got something to do with the audio being encoded as the AC3 format (friggin' old tech i might add) and the fact that its done in VBR mode not in CBR or something.
kay so after reading thru all the stuff on these forums ive gathered i somehow need to extract the sound via a wav file and the video needs to be re-encoded to as a new avi(without the xvid codec i presume).
so heres what ive done to get rid of my audio sync problems...
keep in mind i may be doing extra steps or not enough but all i know is what im doing so far works!![]()
so...
1. i take the xvid encoded avi into "AVItoVCD" and jus use the decompress audio function
so then i get a new avi with "pcm" attached before the end of avi.
2. i then take the new avi file thats been decompressed with the pcm.avi extension into "Virtual DUB" i leave the audio function alone (basically i havent found a reason to change the default settings) but on the video side i select the newest divx codec i have (5.03 or something)
also i select under "options" drop frames when behind (im not sure if this is really needed)
2a. then apparantly you have to make sure to scan video stream for errors under the video section otherwise ive found that when you try to encode it will stop at some point or another. so like i said scan video stream for errors once that is done jus start to encode your new avi!
after thats all done you should now have a new avi thats about almost double the size of the original(atleast thats how it turned out when i used divx codec 5.03) as a side not thou...my new avi file now has a "divx" logo burned in the first several frames of the new avi, thou the program didnt do that when i used the divx 4 codec.
anyway after all that you should now have a newly encoded avi that tmpgenc will reconize!after that jus encode your avi to mpg the normal way you would.
so thats my experience with the "xvid" codec. i must say thou the files do look awhole lot better then most avis encoded with divx codecs, but... why the heck would ya want to to xvid in the first place if ya gotta go thru all kinds of xtra steps to to get the same result?!

thats all.
alohaz.
