  1. My Win2K system (Atlhon 1.2GHz) for video editing and X/S/VCD creation crashes so often lately, I suspect some kind of memory problem because I already try latest drivers (4 in 1 fir VIA chipset). Actual it was very stable since I first bought it.

Is there any diagnostic software for PC to check memory, CPU, etc.. out there I can download ?

    thanks

  3. Norton System Works will do the job. You can download a demo at http://www.symantec.com

  4. Go to http://www.tweakfiles.com and download a copy of RAM Idle, you'll find it in the memory section along with some shareware and freeware memory checkers/managers.
I use RAM Idle to reclaim memory before any video processing. It really helps in "not losing frames" recording with the ATI-AIW TV recorder.

B.T.W What Capture card are you using?

  5. Thanks for all the answers, I will try them.

    Here is my system config:
    T-Bird 1.2 GHz + 256MB memory
    DVD-ROM 12X
    HP CD-RW 4X
    30GB and 60GB UDMA-100 HDDs
TMPGEnc 12a and 12f for encoding
    Nero software for CD burning
    Firewire for DV capture

My system just behave very strangely last week, I restore a back up image of my system hard drive (this back up was done 2 months ago when the system ran realy well), it still does not solve the problem.

Problems occur while encoding with TMPGEnc (most of the time). Either it crashes the PC, re-boot it or as of this morning, it freezed a few minutes into SVCD encoding.

Sometimes, it finishes encoding. As soon as I click on My Computer (to check the MPEG file), the system re-boots !!!

It just sound like a hardware problem to me.

  6. I finally have time to install RAMIdle in my system and ... the result is GREAT.
My encoding no longer crashes. The good thing is there is a status of how much free RAM the system has at any time in the task bar.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.
