i am really interested in picking up an Matrox RT.X10 Capture Card but this will be my first time buying an additonal piece of Hardware for my computer so i have a couple questions.

first, will i need a video camera in order to capture footage because i don't have one??

i have absoultely no idea of how i would install it, someone told me i need a empty PCI slot but i don't even what that is, could you tell how install it in my computer?

what exactly do they mean i can edit my videos without rendering?

all i want to be able to do is install a capture card in my computer then i want to be able capture some footage off of my Playstation 2 and make a video then put it on the web without the use of a camcorder, so what would i need to do that. i understand i need the capture card but i have no idea of what to look for, someone recommended the Matrox RT.X10 to me and it seems very good to me but i have no knowledge whatsoever about Videocards, like i said before i wouldn't even know how to install it or undertsand it for that matter. i just want a capture card that i can install and understand very easily because i'm not i real expert when it comes to this, so would the Matrox RT.X10 be good for me. i need a capture card very soon but i am completely stuck because i have no idea of what to do or look for.

i don't care about the price it could be up to $600.00 for all i care, i just need one of the best ones on the market that would be easy to understand for someone who doesn't have any knowledge about Video Cards, Capture Cards...etc

the main reason i need it is because i want to be able to capture footage off of my Playstation 2 and make a video without the use of a camcorder.

should i get the Matrox RT.X10 or should i get another one and which one would you recommend.

  2. Should be pretty easy...pretty much plug and play with WinXP. Just drop the card into a PCI slot (if you haven't added anything, you should have plenty). Install the drivers that came with the disk (if applicable). Have fun

    Thats it...

If that still confuses you or you aren't sure about something, pay the folks there $50 to install the card. Most places offer installation services for a few bucks more.

I think you are in over your head. I would strongly encourage you to have the card installed for you. It's not rocket science, but you should at least find one of your friends that knows how to do it to at least show you. A little static can ruin your whole computer.

You PS2 is not a great video source. It's a cheap chip that produces the video. So, the final quality won't be DVD, but it can be pretty good.

You don't need a camcorder to do this, unless you are playing and playing, then I recomend a VCR.

You need to make sure that the capture card will accept the same type of video the PS2 uses (S-Video that sort of looks like mouse connector, or composite video that sort of looks like a speaker connector).

As for software, well, there's a LOT. That's up to you and how good you are at reading guides. It all depends on the final format (put it on the web?)
