Ok, so now one of the portions of the movie I have is corrupted. I don't know what happened. When I first got it, I played it on my DVD player and it worked just perfect. Then earlier when I was getting ready to burn it, it said it was corrupt. Now I can't open the file in any program. I opened the file in DivFix and did "rebuild index", and it saves the seperate file and everything as if it worked, but then it still will not open in any program. I even tried checking the box labeled "cut out bad parts" in DivFix, still no luck there. So here are the error messages i'm getting.
When trying to open in TMPGEnc
"File "filename here" can not open, or unsupported."
When trying to open in Windows Media Player
"Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
When I rebuild the index in DivFix this is the log message I get.
"Corrupted data detected at frame 63430
Error offset: 180343220 ($0ABFD1B4)
Done."
Anyone know how to go about fixing this? It's a massive file for a 56K modem to DL(188MB), so i'm hoping to be able to fix it... I looked under tools for other file repair progs, but didn't see anything for my problem.

You are missing the appropriate codec. download gspot and use it to open your avi. It will tell you what codec you need to install.

Tried that, no luck. Here is what it told me...
Status for both video and audio: "Codec IS installed"
File Status: "May be truncated: 24 bytes are missing"
"This is a valid AVI file that has been slightly truncated - a relatively small number of bytes are missing. This is somewhat common occurrence, and not necessarily a problem; the media file may be perfectly usable. Then again it may not. The exact file length is as follows:
183MB (188,032 KB 192,544,816 bytes)"
Under DirectShow Render this is what it says...
"This section simulates 'playing' the file the same using the same system as Windows Media Player uses (and probably most other media players as well). The results of the attempt are shown here.
In this case, DirectShow was unable to play the file. The only information returned is in the form of an error message. The full error message is as follows:
Error: Unknown Error" -
Doesn't open in VDub. None of my AVIs will, not even the other files that I have that ARE NOT corrupt will open in VDub(before changing to MPEG). What i've done with my previous files, is open it in TMPGEnc and make it into an MPEG and then ran it in VDub.
Here are the programs I have:
DivFix -ran it through this already, and this did not fix the errors. Have ran it numerous times and it hasn't changed anything as of yet...
TMPGEnc- Can't open the file in this.
VirtualDub- Can't open the file in this.
GSpot 2.1- Opened the file in this and it pretty much told me the Codecs were installed and the problems in my above ^^ post ^^
The thing that bothers me is that, when I first downloaded the file, it worked just fine. I specifically remember playing it through to make sure it did work. The only thing I can think of is this "strip index" option on DivFix may have f'd something up? I don't know what it's for, but remember clicking it at one point, but DID NOT save... -
It looks to me that you have installed a codec or other software that has screwed up some or all of your video system. About all I can suggest other than wiping you HD and re-einstalling windows is un-install codecs and/or video type software 1 at a time to see if you can fix it. If you do this and un-install everything you can think of, the try re-installing, starting with just the codecs that Gspot told you that you needed. Not much help maybe but all I can think of at the moment.

I went ahead and re-downloaded the file and it works fine.
I appreciate your reply though.
