Hi- I'm trying to learn to script with Avisynth so I can retain the 2.35:1 DAR of the DVD's I've been copying, but ran into one small problem. When I attempt to work some basic scripts, Windows Media Player says it "does not support the format I am attempting to play. I tryed to run a "Version" test (the word "Version"saved as "version.avs"), but it gave me this error. It's odd because I can go into the Avisynth program files, under "Examples", and choose the "Version" avs file there, which WMP plays fine (shows a short film of the Avisynth version, without any errors). I don't understand if I'm doing this wrong, or if my version of WMP is not compatible. I also tryed to run the "first script" test in which you use a short avi of your own, but got the same error. All the "Examples" provided by Avisynth play fine, though. I am using Avisynth v2.06, WMP 9, and notepad for the text.
Any advice would be great. THANKS!!
Also, does anyone know if Avisynth can be used with TMPGenc?

TMPGenc can read AVS script files.
As for your problems... so you can play the test files, but you can't read your own. It sounds like you didn't install AVISynth correctly:

Q1.6: How do I install/uninstall AviSynth ?
A: In v2.05 or older versions: move avisynth.dll to your system/system32 directory and run install.reg. For autoplugin loading see Q5.2. Rebooting is not necessary. Make sure you have no other versions of AviSynth floating around on your harddisc, because there is a chance that one of those versions will be registered. Remove them if necessary. For uninstalling AviSynth, run uninstall.reg and remove avisynth.dll from your system/system32 directory.
Starting from v2.06 AviSynth comes with an auto installer. Also in this case make sure you have no other versions of AviSynth floating around on your harddisc, because there is a change that one of those versions will be registered. Remove them if necessary. For uninstalling AviSynth go to "program", "AviSynth 2" and select "Uninstall AviSynth". -
Thanks for the quick response, Vejita!
I went back and uninstalled v2.6, then ran a search for any other related Avisynth files before re-auto installing v2.6. I still got the same error?
On a happy noteTMPG let me import the "Version"avs test script that I made (the script that WMP would not read). Hopefully, even though I can't view the avs files with WMP, I might be able to encode them with TMPG as I needed to!

Maybe, but if you can't play them in WMP odds are that TMPGenc can't read them (although you just said that this happened). It's kind of odd. AVIsynth is really just a dll file, can you manually confirm that it's in the correct directory/s?

I think so? All the program files are located in c:\Program Files\AviSynth2. And the dll is in c:\Windows\System 32\avisynth.dll. I don't know why WMP won't play the files I script. I did a full test on TMPGenc with the "Version"test script, and it encoded the whole "short film", leaving me with an mpeg file I COULD play with WMP? Hopefully I'll be able to script and resize my avi files without any hassle (even though it will suck not being able to preview the script changes I have made, prior to encoding with TMPGenc).
Thanks!
