2x write speed on Leaddata (generic disc) with Pioneer/Cendyne A05
I ordered the Leaddata DVD-R (69c per disc if you buy 100 with free shipping) from allmediaoutlet.com (they shipped fast) and the discs are actually no name generic discs. However, my Cendyne A05 with original firmware 1.0 will write at 2x.
The first disc toasted and no DVD-ROM will read it, even DVD burner itself. My APEX player will play first half and then stop. But the rest 15 discs are perfect. Tried different DVD-ROM and 2 players w/o problem. I use dvdxcopy and dvd2one/Recordnow mas 4 to copy.
Should I stick with this disc or should I change to Ritek? Seems most guys here are using Ritek.

Wow if you can burn 95/100 at 2x perfectly and play them in your DVD players then why bother with 1x Riteks which are on average %50 more expensive? Had I known Leaddata would burn at 2x with the exact same drive as yours and same firmware I would of ordered them instead of Princo 100 spindle 1x, .59 cents.
I'll order a small batch of LeadData next time and see for myself. Too bad rima.com do not include the leaddata in their sample pack. They do sell them though funny. -

I think these are Princo 1X, so they shouldn't be burning at mroe than 1X with the A05!!!
Sorry if this is a silly question, in your case, but I have seen people post about higher speeds, when in actuality the drive slowed down after 30 seconds, to a slower write speed (1X), even though 2X had been selected...
Thanks! -
I just got some leaddata from allmedia and they DON'T burn at 2x on my Cendyne/Pioneer a05 with orginal 1.0 firmware.
I hope these are not PRINCO since there are playback problem with them. -

check out my post from a couple weeks ago, I had the same experience on some of my lead data disks, and it turned out that the ones that burned at 2x on my 105 were IDed as Sony.

Roy2001, have you burned a full (> 4.0 gig) dvd around 30 minutes? I have the same drive as yours and I definitely can't do that. Very strange indeed.

Yes, I use DVD2ONE and then Recordnow shows 2x in 31min. Actually it finished in 30min for 4.3GB data.

I just purchased 50 Ritek G03 from AllMediaOutlet and burned three of them. Two out of three failed verify on the last files on the disc, and one passed with less than 2GB on it.
These are white tops with purple bottoms that ID's RITEKG03 but funny they don't look anything like the silver top purple bottom Ritek G03 from SuperMediaStore that burn fine on my Pioneer A05.
I just hope AllMedia refunds my money.--hardwired -
Update: I use CDspeed from NERO and it shows Lead Data in 25pk is actually SONY and speed rated at 2x.
But today my 100pk arrived (2 50pk actually), and CDspeed said it is LD, no longer SONY. So I guess I am not lucky this time although I know they are exactly the SAME discs except the media ID. So some guys may be right that LEAD DATA made discs for SONY. -

Enough confusion regarding Sony/Lead Data write speed from PC Club using the Cendyne DVR-105. I have compiled, from my experience and others, what to look for in purchasing 2X Sony dvd-rs from PC Club.
The following label I.D.s are from the Sony/Lead Data 2X dvd-rs:
A2VK 4308 J242 (I have 4 25Pk dvd-rs with this ID)
A2VK 4309 K032 (this is from a open 50 Pack)
A1VK 4308 K042
A1VK 4309 J302 (thanks Oldman2)
The following label I.D.s are from Lead Data 1X dvd-rs:
A1VK 4307 J292 (thanks ravic)
A2VK 4307 L082
A1VK 4307 J232
From the above data, it appears the ones to avoid are the 4307 series. Look for the 4308 and 4309 series to get 2X write speed on the Cendyne DVR-105 with firmware 1.0.
I would recommend only purchases from B&M locations since with online purchases you will not know what you will be getting. Also I would purchase only the 25 Pack since these are not
sealed and can view the serial data. The 50 Packs are sealed and I could not see the serial numbers thru it.
If anyone would like to make additions or corrections, please post your experience.
Happy Hunting -
