  1. Just wondering what everyone who owns a Sony DRU-500A thinks is the most stable and compatible firmware version? Right now I have 1.0g but have been hearing that some of the earlier versions work better. What does everyone based on personal experience think is the best firmware to go with?

  4. I had a working 4x burner until I upgraded to 1.0g after that it would no longer burn DVD-R at 4x no matter what the brand.

I did that and set the drive as a secondary slave plus went back to firmware 1.0d and yes it's better. Now one brand of 4x media I have burns all the way through at 4x, the other brand burns at 4x up to about 50% then drops back to 2x.

It surprises me that so many people a have the G-version.
I heard more bad things than goods things about the G.

I'm still at D firmware and don't really have probs, unless it's my own fault.

So, is this poll REALLY about what firmware is BEST or is this poll about which firmware most people have??

  8. My experience is the same as ptmurphy's. No noticable difference between f vs. g.

I still prefer to have the latest of everything though.

  9. I've upgraded my Sony DRU-500a to firmware 1.0g and haven't experienced any problems. I'm able to burn at 4x with DVD+R media but haven't tried 4x DVD-R media yet.

Never updated. Running "d" version. Works perfectly in a external firewire enclosure w/Nero 5.5.10.7. Made all supports (-r -rw +r +rw) from all brands. Very happy with this device.

  11. My first sony had 1.0d and after it died the replacement came with 1.0g.
I believe that 1.0d was better and faster.
