After reading so many reviews on the quality of Instant Copy, I decided to throw my two quarters in.
I've just replaced my Apex 1100w with a Sony DVP-NS715P and noticed a considerable difference in quality when comparing the same movie made with DVD2SVCD using VBR 1700 bitrate. (About a Boy)
Even though IC had bitrates upward to 4000, I found noticable artifacts throughout. DVD2SVCD in comparison, using CCE, was of much better quality.
I think some people need to either get new DVD player or put an end to their menu fettishes.

You must be doing something wrong if you get these results IC is the best DVD one button solution to date without question. Think DVD, VCD/SVCD is yesterdays news.

I think if you'll check the threads no one has ever claimed IC7 can match CCE and neither should it be expected to. CCE is the best, but IC isn't that far behind and is another great option to have. I've done a vast amount of films with CCE and probably about 10 or 15 now with IC7 and I can safely say that any quality loss is insignificant enough to allow me to enjoy the backup completely, so I can't see what more I could ask.
One occassion where I think IC7 did a better job of a movie than CCE was with "The Ring" which for some reason CCE struggled with. To be fair to CCE though, this is the only occassion when I would say it was bettered. -
I think silvergator hit the nail on the head when he says that different DVD players show up different amounts of artifacts - this is VERY true! Just because a disc looks good on one machine doesn't mean that it will look as good on another one! I experience this every day, that's why I try to get it looking good on a PC monitor, as this is far higher definition than any TV screen, so if it looks good on a PC, it will look great on a TV!

I think folks shold have a look at dvd95copy.
I have just done Pearl Harbour - over 7 gig down to 4.36.
Quality is superb and half the time of Instant copy - just over 2.5 hours
ripping and re-packing.

dvd95copy is a good program. The menus and extras don't look so hot, but the main movie is what you want to look excellent, and this program does it. Just my 2 cents worth :P
