  1. Please forgive me for probably such a simple question. I'm new to this and was hoping to find an answer.

I have an AVI file that is 726MB big and almost 2 hours in length. I used virtualdub to rip the sound from the avi into a separate wav file. I then attempted to use TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to MPG to write to DVD. I pretty much followed the guide on how to do this, but about half way through the preview window stayed on a single frame but it kept encoding. I figured something was up, but I decided to let it complete just to see what happens. It finished it's encoding (a total of 22 hours) and I checked it out. It starts fine, but then when I try to skip toward the center of the movie it freaks. I figure that the source AVI might be corrupted somehow, even though I've watched the AVI all the way through with no problems. Am I on the right track or could there be other possibilites? I would just play with it, but my system isn't the best and even though I am patient enough for it to convert it, I would still prefer not to. Sorry for the lengthy post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you use Virtauldub to check your AVI for bad frames? They must be removed before extracting the sound and converting.

  3. No, I didn't. Thanks for the tip. I'm sure that's covered under a guide somewhere. I'll look for it and see if that fixes my problem. Thanks again for the reply.
