  1. Hi,

I can't find a hack for my laptop computer's DVD player to make it region-free, so I have a limited number of switches. My question is: if I play a divx/.avi/.mpg or other video file that was burnt onto a DVD (they're just data discs with video files, not actual DVDs), do they correspond to a certain region? I'm not sure if video files have region limitations. Thanks!

Nope, data discs has no region. And if you want to make your laptop region free for dvd-video discs you can use a software like dvd43, anydvd, dvd region-free.

They do, however, correspond (sometimes vaguely) to formats (PAL or NTSC) which can also cause playback restrictions. If you have a Sony, it may well describe these are being related to region, even though they are not.
