Perhaps, you should also post your question on this forum:

  4. GET DVD+RWs because dvd+r medias cost much less in store than dvd-r. unless u get da unbrand medias then u pay for wat u get, the quality is incomparable. DVD+RW writes faster too.

I have the HP 200i, and I'm very pleased with the quality of the unit and HP support, although the software bundled with it is junk. The only OEM software I still use is HP's DLA driver, having replaced the other stuff with Nero and Ulead DVD Workshop.

You're probably also well-advised to take recommendations here with a grain of salt, as people who have already chosen a side (myself included) in the DVD format war tend to be very partisan.

Personally, I chose the 200i for HP's brand name and support, two factors I'm familiar with from owning other HP products. And I got a great deal; after rebates I paid $189 when they were going for $300 or more. +R/+RW media is essentially the same price as -R/-RW media, especially if you're a careful shopper. And while the +R format has some advantages over -R, they (so far) have been of little use to me.

I seached all over the nero burning rom site and didn't find the dvd300i in the supported dvd writer list. So is it supported by the nero?

Also a lot of ppl say that they have problems with dru500 and nero is there the same problems with HP?

They list the 200i but not the 300i, probably just because the 300i is pretty new. I wouldn't expect any problems with Nero and the 300i, and I haven't had a single problem using Nero with my 200i.

How fast can you rip a movie? SONY is locked at 2x what about the HP?
Also I heard that the HP is based on NEC but unfortunately HP removed the dual standart funcionality and locked read speed at 8x. Is it true?

    The 200i writes +R and +RW at 2.4x; a full 4.38 GB movie takes about 22-24 minutes using Nero. DVD read is 8x, CD-R is 12x/10x/32x write/rewrite/read.

  11. I have the HP200i and the Ricoh MP5125A which are the same drive. I cannot tell the difference in writing. I think the 300i is an NEC drive which should be pretty good considering NEC's track record with CD-R/RW drives.
