  1. I need to split an avi into 2.

What is the best procedure ?
1)split the avi in virtualdub (I had sync. problems) or
    2) split the encoded mpg (svcd) in tmpgenc using mpeg tools (have not done this before, advice is welcome!) or
    3) using other methods/software

    Thank you.

  2. I have found splitting/joining mpeg-s with TmpGenc can also sometimes cause sync problems, but only if it a VBR encode. CBR encodes work fine. It doesn't always cause sync problems so you could try it, you might get lucky.

As to virtualdub splitting causing sync problems, this usually only happens with VBR audio. If this is the case, use virtualdub to creat a new copy of the avi with uncompressed audio. Set video->direct stream copy, Audio-Full processing and compression none (PCM) then go to file->save avi. Check the new avi for audio sync and if it is OK (it should be) then split and encode.

    Hope this helps.

  3. I did three ways

1.- Virtualdub to split and tmpgenc to encode it
2.- Avichop to split and tmpgenc to encode it
3.- Mainconcept to encode it and split it (fastest way)

  4. Thank you. Sounds like that is the exactly the problem I experienced. My avi contained VBR audio. Do you split using video/select range in virtual dub and save multiple avi's (when you then encode individually ?)
    Thanks.
