I bought some legitimate Warner Bros. cartoon VCDs from Malaysia. I can play the older ones fine with Media Player. The newer ones, from 1999 on, only play using PowerDVD or other VCD software. I get a device error on the newer discs if I try to copy the MPEG file (AVSEQ1.DAT). What did Warner change in 1999 to protect their VCDs?

I'd be willing to bet the post 1999 cartoon VCD's are actually SVCD's and are therefore in MPEG2, which requires an MPEG2 player or codec to play.

Maybe your old VCD are 1.1 compliant and the new ones 1.2 compliants... I have such problem with ATI VCD player...
