  1. I recently bought a Sony DRU500AX for a friend's computer. I ripped using DVD decrypter and then tried burning using Nero 5.5.9.17 and tried burning using DVD decrypter. I've tried three different kinds of media, including the +RW that comes with the drive. In all cases it says the burn was successful, but the only drive that will read the disc is the Son DRU 500AX. I have the same software and follow the same steps with my Sony DRU 500A and it works fine and plays in every player I've tested it in. Is this a problem with the drive not finalizing the discs? Any help would be great.

First of all, your other drives need to be compliant with the media format, e.g. +RW. If your drives don't recognize +RW then it won't play.

Also the brand can be a difference, my Panasonic recognizes Verbatim media perfectly, but have problems with the cheap Princo media.

Second, Nero is not the best way for making DVD Video compatible backups.
For some people Nero works, but I think for the majority it doesn't.

I use RecordNow DX 4.60 and have no problems whatsoever.
Besides, RecordNow comes with the drive, no?

  3. Thanks for the response. I know my other dvd players, both in computer and stand alone are compatible with the media I am using because they work with DVD's that I created using my own DRU 500A. THey only don't play discs create by my friend's DRU 500AX.
