  1. I use Nero's DVD-Video option which makes DVD-R's that play in my standalone player. But the discs don't play in all standalone players. Is there a particular format that will play in all players? I am referring to players in just one zone.

Yes (that is assuming the player can play DVD-R's in the first place.) Check out this link...

  3. Thanks. Does using UDF 1.02 produce backups that will play in any zone?

UDF 1.02 has nothing to do with what zone any dvd is ..

if you specifically dont do a zone on authoring .. the disk is zone free .

  5. What file represents the zone?

  6. I'm a bit of a newbie to all this, but I've found that discs burned in UDF1.02 format will NOT play in my Pioneer Elite DV-09 standalone. Using nero's 'DVD Video' template (which I believe is UDF1.05) works brilliantly. Both UDF play in my cheaper Pioneer standalone.

  7. The region encoding is added by commercial disc producers into the encoding. If you are doing your own material don't worry as there will be no region encoding and it will play anywhere (although you have to think about PAL vs. NTSC).
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
