  1. Just checked the windows update and found 4 new items. Any pros and cons about these? I seem dubious about the Codec Install Package.
Should I wait to install these, or not wait at all? When SP1 was released, I did not install it right away.

  3. I have WMM2 and WMP9. I think they're great. I like WMP9 ALOT better than Winamp3. Winamp3 takes twice if not 3 times as long to start up on my computer than WMP9 and it uses alot more ram and sys resources than WMP9. I'm not being a Microsoft fanboy here, but I truly WMP9 is a better product that Winamp3. Also, WMM2 has alot of good features including effects and transitions. But one thing that I dont like, is the output capabilities. It doesn't support outputing to MPEG and wont let you output to raw AVI either. You have to choose a WMV format or DV-AVI. This is bad for me, as I want to edit the video then make a VCD. Using WMV I wont be able to achieve that great of quality, so I just exported to DV-AVI and am going to encode with TMPGEnc. Thats about the only flaw of WMM2, not being able to export to different formats. But you can get around that by just going to DV-AVI and then reencoding. But for a free product, I tihnk WMM2 is just fine.

  4. I highly recommend WMP9(many new features),if you install WMP9 you do not need to install WMA9 codecs.

  5. regarding this: Q810243: Recommended Update - DirectShow playback support for Windows XP Media Center Edition recorded files

Do not install it if you want encoding to work!!

Befire i installed this update i could encode to mpg without any problems. Now it seems to work ok but audio always drifts out of sync on the encoded file.

Also you cannot uninstall this update after you have installed it. It messes up all your system restore points aswell because i had made some before installing this and they have now vanished. So I am now stuck. I guess the only way i can see to fix this is to do a complete reinstall of Windows XP

A friend of mine also had exactly the same problem after installing this. So avoid this like the plague!

Just out of interest i would like to hear from anyone who has installed this update and NOT had the same probs as me. Also any news of fixes would be appreciated.
