  1. I have converted an XviD.Avi file to mpeg for SVCD. When I play it on my computer it works fine, but when I copy it to disc there is no sound.

Anybody know what could be causing this?

  3. I used this guide to convert the file and saved the extracted audio file as a wav file.

Yes. Your sound is most likely AC3. Use Goldwave to extract the audio to PCM then encode with that file as your audio input.

Can you give any more details as the sound format other than it is a wave file?
    Hello.

    What it PCM?

I got the following from AVICodec before I converted it.

    Audio : 102 MB, 129 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported
After I converted it to mpeg

    Audio : 0.0 B, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported
Looking at this the audio file shows 0, but it plays on my PC.

i've heard somewhere that some dvd players don't support mpeg-1 layer 2 audio? if ur using tmpgenc for the conversion select "linear PCM" instead.

    hope this helps, josh

As this forums says, it's for newbies.
