I downloaded a movie from the interent. I know some consider this wrong but I paid to see it in the theater and will buy it on DVD when it is available. Anyway, it was in a .avi format but in order to view it, I had to install the Kristal Studio codec pack. I used TMPGEnc to convert this to SVCD and everything went OK. However, when I try to burn the SVCD using the VideoStudio 5 DVD Plug-in, it tells me that it is not a valid SVCD file. I convert from DV to SVCD using TMPGEnc all of the time and have no problems with the DVD Plug-in. Anyone know why it would not make a valid file from my download?

    Thanks,

  2. TMPGenc most likely made a valid MPEG2 encode (assuming you loaded the correct template). I'm not familar witht the VideoStudio 5 DVD Plug-in software, but you might want to try burning with another program (eg. Nero, CDR Win, etc).

What settings did you use to encode your AVI? Can you play the encoded file in media player?

Thanks for the reply. I did not encode the AVI, I downloaded it. Initially, I could not play it. I downloaded the Kristal Studio Pack and now I can play the AVI in Media Player. I used the SuperVCD template in TMPGEnc to encode using a manual variable bit rate maximum of 2004 in order to make it fit on the CD.

I have used TMPGEnc to encode AVI's that I captured using my Firewire card and MiniDV with no problems in DVD-Plugin. I encoded the downloaded AVI in the same manner. I can play the resulting MPG file in Media Player, but the plugin says it is not a valid SVCD file.

Any other help will be appreciated. I wanted to use the DVD Plugin because I can create menus very easily with it.

    Thanks,
