GIGO. There is really no way you can bump up the quality of a VCD or SVCD by converting to another format. Your DVD or other recording will be limited by the source material. To get the utmost in quality, you would want to make an exact copy of the DVD. Usually, this entails splitting to 2 DVD's. You have most likely read that there are a few programs out there (DVD2One, Instant Copy, DVD95Copy) that will compress the video to one DVD. These work fine if your files are less than about 6 gig. Otherwise the compression applied will be noticeable on the final product. For direct copies--ie, spliting--Try DVDxCopy or infoedit (free!). Hope this helps.

  3. Making a DVD is pretty easy since VCD Resolution is a DVD Standar. You need a proggie like I think VCDEasy to convert the .dat file back to .mpg
Then Demux the .mpg in tmpegenc. You will now have 2 files a .m1v (that is the video) and and mpa, or mp2 (The audio) Transcode the audio up to 48,000 BeSweetGui will do that, the take your converted audio, and your .m1v and remux in tmpegenc and walla youno have a DVD compient mpeg1. Just author in you favorite proggie, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
