I'm getting a rip speed of around x 1.7 (x2.0 at best) and seems to take an average of 40mins.
    It's a Pioneer 105 which I understand has a data rate of x 16.
I ripped a relatively small dvd at lunch-time (5.1gb) and it took 36mins, is this normal?
A couple of my ond movies last night took 45mins.
I would check to see if DMA is enabled but the proceedure I'd follow in Win98se (control panel, device manger, right click properties) isn't the same in WinXP - I followed the same porceedure as I would normally but there was no mention of DMA.

My Pioneer DVD-RW drive on my PC also ripps pretty slow.

But i really don't have to worry about that, because i use my Lite-on 16x DVD drive when it comes to ripping. It ripps at around 7x or more most of the time

  9. ive got a liteon 163 (manufacturer date dec 2001) and only recently ive noticed it ripping very slow, it finds it hard to hit the 1.0x mark now, ive flashed with the latest Firmware Version GH5S and still no joy, have also checked that its in DMA and it is and ive resintalled xp

u think its starting to die? my writer rips at 2.1x straight away

ant recommendations on a replacement? i cant find the liteon 166 here in UK only the Liteon 165.

    cheers
