  1. Ok i captured something from a dv camera and converted it and everything, authored and burned with nero UDF 1.02; here's the problem, i put it in my philips dvd-711 which (on this site) it says it can handle dvd+r/rw (i used dvd+r) and it just went straight to the stop screen; it did say DVD as in it recognized that there was a dvd in the drive but it wouldn't play. Now i went to a friends house and tried it on his shinsonic dvd-100A and it didn't work either, but then i tried ejecting and putting it back in, and after like 2-5 times of in/out, it finally worked, played all the way through, with some little glitches (i think it was the dvd player had trouble reading it because it plays fine on my computer). Now both dvd players are said to be able to play DVD+R/RW and mine didn't, and my friends did but with a lot of trouble. What's going on? and if nobody knows could someone recommend a dvd player that will work fine no problems? (needs to play vcd/dvd+r/w, dvd) doesn't need mp3 or anythiign special, don't have a lot of money so please suggest affordable stuff, and also is there any special media i should be using to burn that is good with standalone players? just for the record, i'm using an ikebana DVDR drive (i think its ricoh or something), and i'm using HP DVD+R media 4.7GB C8009A.

    Please reply quick...

  2. New info: I tried another dvd+r in my player this time it was the blank that came with the burner it says AOpen DVD+R, and it worked fine, no problems, but the only thign is that it wasn't a captured movie converted and all that stuff, this is a copy of a dvd-9 disc (Martin Lawrence: RunTelDat) using DVD2ONE (WORKS GREAT). it plays no problems whatsoever. So my only problem is that i'm not sure if it's not working becuase the media is bad, or becuase it wasn't a direct dvd copy and it was encoded video (might sound like i said it wrong but u guys know what i mean)

Any ideas? i'm lookin to eitehr spend like 100 on a new player or buy this media from now on (even though it doesn't have a nice picture on it that u can label it, just a blue background and a lot of writing).

  3. Take your disk to a local store and get permission to try playing it on any DVD players you might like to find one that will work.

The guides available here and other places are not 100% true. They are anacdotal, meaning what people have said seems to work or are from limited testing.
There are alot of varibles such as media brand, encoding rate, audio type and authoring software used.

  4. there was a post about the philips player that said that it doesn't play dvds with less than 3.89 gb, if that's true then that's why it didn't work because mine is like 3.49, how do i make it bigger? i have a new file that's like 43 min that i want to burn... hwo can i make it so that it takes the whole cd? i tried tmpg and selected 100% but it won't go that high
